PLAYER INFORMATION

PLAYER: Crystal
ARE YOU AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD?: yes
CONTACT: crystal#4450
CHARACTERS PLAYED: N/A

CHARACTER INFORMATION

NAME: James Moriarty
CANON: Fate/Grand Order
CANON REFERENCE: Here's a wiki! I'm sorry for everything Fate/ chooses to be.
CANON POINT: Following the talk with the older version of himself in Lostbelt 6.5: Traum
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: Canonically physically in his 20s (as a Servant, his actual age is a big ???, but he is an adult)
APPEARANCE:
A nice little collection of his ascension arts on twitter, basically ranging from clown nerd to clown nerd (more formal-looking) to clown nerd (has ribbons now).

CONTRACT PAYMENT:
The full realization of his Noble Phantasm, The Dynamics of an Asteroid. It is a formula that can be used to initiate true planetary collapse, but as it is now, its like a graduate thesis that's nowhere near being complete, and he cannot use it. Moriarty actually does not truly believe the contract will allow him to complete this, but its more of him stating his overall general goal than anything else - in his mind, he'll bypass the contract and work on it in his own way during his time in Jigokucho, constructing the webs that will ultimately let him realize his ambition. For now, he'll play nice...though, for how long he will is questionable...

QUESTIONNAIRE:

Your Faction leader, not just your boss but the leader, has asked you to carry out a hit. The target is a non-affiliated public leader, well-liked by the people of the city. Do you carry it out? Why or why not?

Of course he carries it out. Does the Emperor of Evil balk at cutting down the people in his way, under orders or otherwise? Of course not. Popularity does not save anyone from his overarching evil, being well loved does not protect you from a bad fate. Its not even personal - in Moriarty's eyes, regardless of what the leader wants out of this, this whole thing is just another example of the malignance of human beings in general. He knows for a fact that some will die simply because they're wrapped up in the wants and needs of others calculating how much power they can obtain. It isn't surprising to him at all to see it happen.

(But deep down, under the pompous presentation, Moriarty shudders. Not because he doesn't want to murder, he knows he has to because he chose this life, but because he's not yet courageous enough to do it with his own hand. He is at a stage where, as his older version claims, he has yet to truly see a dead body, and killing Servants who disappear into gold dust is not the same as killing a human being. As the spider he is he'll try to find a way to pull strings and get someone to do the deed for him while sitting back in his web. Sometimes...you're not ready for the full experience of taking the life of another, in all its brutality.)

How important is loyalty to you? What does it take to earn your loyalty? What extents are you willing to go through to maintain loyalty, and respect the loyalty others might have invested in you?

Loyalty is a bit of a joke. Of course, Moriarty understands it, values in its own right as something to be used, but he is someone who only trusts himself above everyone else. People who claim loyalty today can betray tomorrow. Moriarty is prepared for that at all times, and makes calculations accordingly. If he ever happens to have anyone willing to claim loyalty to him, he's more than happy to plan around them in the case of this so-called loyalty failing. And if this loyalty does indeed fail? Well. As Sherlock Holmes says in the novels - "In the first place, I may tell you that Moriarty rules with a rod of iron over his people. His discipline is tremendous. There is only one punishment in his code. It is death."

As far as his own loyalty for others, he will only go as far as honoring contracts as in between a Servant and a Master. Anything else will almost likely be held back in a cool, distanced relationship where it is apparent that he is not willing to trust anyone, and betrayal is absolutely in his cards, too, depending on his plans.

(However, of course, there are always exceptions. For while he would be happy to keep things in a professional way in relationships requiring loyalty, if the person he's serving is someone he likes, truly and genuinely, then he'll go further than even he would expect. He'll pull out all the stops, try to impress them, offer to do evil deeds for them - and why? Really, deep down, as much as he would like to play the Emperor of Evil lounging on a throne...he does appreciate being trusted, even just a little bit. He's a young man with fragile self esteem, and even just to be someone to rely on, even if its not quite loyalty, to someone he appreciates...it would mean so much to him.)

An enemy of your faction has asked for a meeting, proposing a truce of sorts to deal with a greater threat. On one hand, there is indeed a threat at hand, but on the other, this person double-crossing you is just as likely an outcome. Do you agree to the meeting? Do you trust them?

It depends on his plans, of course, and he knows the best-laid plan of men and mice go oft awry, but he's confident (maybe over-confident) that a move like this won't ruin them, so he'd agree off the bat. In fact, Moriarty might see it as a glowing opportunity - not only does he get an enemy possibly on his side, but this is a chance to turn them, permanently. Moriarty is someone who sees people as chess pieces in a grand scheme, and is proud to use whatever he can to nab more for his side. Of course, there's no trust here, but he'll play the nice ally as much as he can. If things go badly...well, he expected it. But a chance is a chance, and even if it ends with an outright fight, Moriarty will consider it a win in his favor if he gets enough information out of it (and if he gets rid of an enemy in the process? win, win!).

Of course, he could always fail, but Moriarty does not want to consider failure. It isn't in his dictionary. (It is, but he chooses to ignore it.)

You've worked with your Faction awhile now and you feel like the reward of your contract is within reach. But at the last moment, you are told you have even more service to pay beforehand, an obscure clause in the contract being exploited to keep you under your boss's thumb even longer. Your Faction Leader hasn't spoken on this, and might be able to dispute it. Do you go to your leader? Do you argue the dispute yourself? Do you begrudgingly accept the additional work? Something else?

And this is why Moriarty hates servitude (at least, servitude that isn't something he desires for his plans or for more selfish reasons such as liking whoever he works with). There always will be someone to try to use you even under the terms of the agreement, and Moriarty would not abide by this, obscure clause or otherwise. He would dispute the claim, with attempted gathered proof to boot, and will not back down even if argued against. And yes, he would go straight to the leader in full Karen mode, because if there's anything that he cannot stand, its humiliating him (and stoking his poor self esteem to the point where his anger flares).

If that doesn't work, then that's that - Moriarty will dig in his heels unless forced to, like an annoyed child. Nobody can order around the Napoleon of Crime, the Emperor of Evil-! (Unless he is strong-armed, you'll simply have to deal with this brat raising a fuss about it. Sorry, Faction. He is the way he is.)

POWERS & ABILITIES:

You've probably seen it in every Fate/ Servant app, but just to summarize it once again, James Moriarty is a Servant, a Heroic Spirit. He is a magical being that is summoned from a place called the Throne of Heroes, a conceptual figure that is based on a great figure of history or legend. They are usually summoned by mages, who supply magical energy called mana to keep them in existence - if the mana runs out, such as when their Master is killed, then the Servant dies and returns to the Throne of Heroes. They do not need to eat, drink, or sleep.

Moriarty has a bunch of conceptual skills that don't really translate into actual skills outside of providing stuff for gameplay, so I will summarize at the end which of these are abilities that can be regained.

CLASS SKILLS
- Independent Action (A Rank) - the ability to remain independent even when rejecting the mana supply from one's Master; an ability that allows for action even in the absence of a Master. For him, it also possible to remain for extended periods of time in the world without an established contract.
- Conspiracy Creation (EX Rank) - similar to Territory Creation, in which a Servant can build a special terrain that is advantageous to oneself, it allows Moriarty to stretch out a spider web of schemes over a certain area without even really trying.
- Panic Cut (C+ Rank) - no matter how confusing a situation gets, Moriarty can always devise a plan - it blocks mental debuffs such as Confusion, Terror, and Charm as part of gameplay.

PERSONAL SKILLS
- Mathematical Thinking (A Rank) - through precise calculations, he can always make the best decisions in combat. In game, he can evade attacks twice, and guarantee a Sure Hit on a target that may avoid his attack.
- Slide Rule Weapon (B++ Rank) - A gigantic slide ruler, as fitting for a Ruler. It is a multi-weapon that apparently has the capability to turn into any weapon.
- Dice Selection (EX Rank) - A reflection of the fact that Moriarty, although he lived a life of mathematics, allowed the decision if whether he should be evil up to a single dice roll. In gameplay, he's given stars to boost critical strength and has a boost to his attack power.

ALIEN APOSTLE SKILLS
James Moriarty was summoned in story by a place called the Alien World, which is implied to be the source of the current antagonist of Fate/GO, the Alien God. Servants summoned as Apostles are bonded with High Spirits/gods that become a part of them and lend them abilities. Moriarty was bonded with the Norns, three goddesses of Norse mythology in control of the destinies of men. These Norns, implied to come in the forms of three lanterns that hover around him, have given him extra abilities as listed below.

- Dreamwalking - Moriarty in story was able to create dreams in which he contacted the MC when they slept. He has control over how the dream is shaped, but Moriarty has been shown simply to use it as a "meeting room". It is often forgotten when the target awakes.
- Cloning - Moriarty has been shown to split himself into several copies of himself, with the same exact abilities. It seems they all share the same mind and are not truly separate clones.
- Fate Avoidance - an ability to avoid any fate by neutralizing all attacks because he's not fated to get killed by them. However, when he killed his nemesis, Sherlock Holmes, this sealed his fate and spelled his death, removing this ability.
- Floating - he can float around one foot off the ground. He just can. Gods do this I guess.

NOBLE PHANTASM
Moriarty's Noble Phantasm, the crystalization of his most powerful abilities, is called Mathematical Malignant Annihilate (or MMA for short).

This is....a highly conceptual power. This Noble Phantasm can extract the malevolence of several targets - as Fate/GO states, all beings excepts robotic beings and saints have malevolence. Removing it essentially eliminates all feelings necessary for combat such as bloodlust and fighting spirit, which essentially prevents his enemies from taking action against him.

In a gameplay sense, this Noble Phantasm damages those with good alignment, and also slaps evil alignment on them which is then affected by his skills (by reducing resistance). CONFUSING STUFF.  If I had to summarize this Noble Phantasm as something to translate into game, it would be taken as "removes malevolence from targets and makes them unable to act for a short time, all while damaging them".

Also, his Noble Phantasm basically has him create a stock market or something for him to crash which rains down burning money on his enemies? LOOK ITS FATE/. SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE THINGS LIKE THIS.

James Moriarty also has a second Noble Phantasm, The Dynamics of an Asteroid, but this is sealed away as it is not complete yet.

TL;DR. The abilities that I believe are abilities that can be used/regained are:

- Panic Cut, Mathematical Thinking, Conspiracy Creation - just innate skills for the most part that he'll come with. He's a sharp thinker who can create widespread plans that involve many, and he keeps a cool head in danger and doesn't panic.
- Slide Rule Weapon - he will get a giant ruler on coming to Jigokucho, but it won't be able to turn into anything. It's just a ruler. TO REGAIN- it may be able to updated to take another form like it does in game, like a laser that can shoot light that damages targets.
- Dreamwalking - TO REGAIN - if he regains this, it may just be like a IC Private Conversation where he enters the dreams of a chosen person to have a chat as they sleep. Nothing more.
- Cloning - TO REGAIN - probably dulled down into something like shadow cloning, just a temporary copy to deliver attacks and nothing else.
- Floating - TO REGAIN - SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA FLOAT EVERYWHERE
- MMA - TO REGAIN - his noble phantasm, which eliminates malevolence in targets (temporarily). Basically damages some targets and steals their will to fight for a short moment.

SUITABILITY:
"The greatest schemer of all time, the organizer of every devilry, the controlling brain of the underworld, a brain which might have made or marred the destiny of nations – that’s the man!"

James Moriarty may be young, but there is no doubt that he's in peak form when it comes to his dark future of becoming one of the most infamous criminal masterminds the world has ever known. Moriarty would fit splendidly into the world of Jigokucho, because he is a young man poised on the precipice of evil, knowing he will certainly jump down into hell itself sooner rather than later. He lives, breathes, and indulges in crime, so he won't blink all that much at the depravity around him. (Deep down, he's more insecure than he lets on, but he is solidly on the route of evil under his own decision. He made his bed and he is willing to lay in it.)

FACTION SUITABILITY:

SHUTEN CLAN

"Oh, Master, it's your birthday? Then I'll flip a coin. Heads, I bless you. Tails, I curse you. Say, which do you prefer? Huh? You want me to celebrate without the gambling elements like a normal person? Sigh, if you say so."

Might? Moriarty would sneer at that. He's certainly no musclebound thug, and for him, the power of the mind stands far above anyone's strength. He's no party person, either - he'd be the type to sit in a corner and roll his eyes at the rowdiness of people getting too drunk to see straight. However, when it comes to gambling...that's when the mathematician will get a glint in his eye. One would think he'd abhor the uncertainties of the throw of a dice, but it is exactly that which he relied on to make his choice on whether or not he should go down the path of evil. To him, the probabilities of such a thing, taking into account all the variables that can lead to all outcomes, good and bad, is what makes his mind come alive. In the Shuten Clan, he'd be the type to revel in the chaos of it all, and he'd appreciate having opportunities to push people into more desperate situations through making them gamble their lives away. However...sorry, Shuten clan, but the man is a horrible liar. He may be a proper English gentleman, but he's as wicked as they come, as there is no loyalty and honor in his manner. That's just what you get when you get a spider into your ranks, though if they need his abilities, he'll be the brains of the operation...for his own sake, of course.

TAMAMO CLAN
"And so the chrysalis became the butterfly of evil."

A man dreaming he was a butterfly...or was it a butterfly dreaming it was a man? Moriarty is no stranger to the matter of dreams and illusions given even he had the power to walk through dreams with the power of the Norns. He is also someone that even as a Servant is in a quandary of whether he was a true living person, or a mere fictional character in the mind of an author - so the nature of delusion and imagination is something far more personal to him than he might admit. He would agree with the focus on cunning, since to him a sharp mind prevails over all, and insight is his bread and butter when it comes to laying down his web of crime. However, freedom isn't something Moriarty values, as control is what he puts ahead above everything, and he would possibly be too rigid of a person to accept this aspect of the Tamamo Clan's philosophy. He would be happy, however, to use sex and indulgence as a way to make people to bend to the Clan's will - not from him, he would clarify, with a scandalized blush. Those sorts of things would be tools to control others and their temptations to pull them down to where he needs them to be, nothing more. A butterfly he may be, and if in the Clan, he would certainly be a butterfly of evil to make people disappear with no trace. That's his brand of wickedness, after all.

SUTOKU ALLIANCE
"Just do the calculations right and no hit will miss."

Now here's a focus that Moriarty can full-heartedly agree on - he is a "criminal consultant", after all, and intelligence and information is currency in his world. He would nod in absolute approval of the Daitengu - this is how a leader should work, after all. Not to be someone out on the scenes, but a mystery that hides in the background. He would thrive in the environment of the Clan, more than happy to lend his talents to gathering all the secrets and shames of the city to press people where needed. Finance is of course a strength of his (he loves his numbers), and he knows the power of money as the root of all evil. He would care little for being rich - the point of money, in his mind, is a method of control. The only thing that would make him sneer a little is the idea of a group of people managing power for everyone else, even if they're smart enough to handle it. That's what people would like to believe they can do, he would say, with a dismissive stare. In reality, there's always someone stronger, someone smarter, someone who knows exactly how to pull the strings, an individual that can take advantage of that view. Its a bit too naive to think people can work together like that, in his opinion. But regardless of his views, his keen skills and insight would work together well with the Clan, and he'd be a vicious, ambitious ally willing to do what he can to gain power for these underdogs.

DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA
"Justice and evil are both malfunctions in the world. I will detect, observe, and exterminate them."

Moriarty is a Ruler class Servant. Servants are assigned into different named categories by the Throne of Heroes, based on their skills, history, and personality. The ruler class are the neutral ones, those usually appointed in Grail Wars to act as an impartial observer not only there to protect the sanctity of Human Order but the rights and wishes of the Servants fighting for the Grail. Moriarty fits in this class namely because, he considers his role as an "arbiter of evil". He is evil made to control evil, and every human soul contains the possibility of evil. My evil will devour all evil to embody the ultimate evil, he says. Moriarty values control. He values order, spider webs tying up the unruly and rebellious. He rules with an iron rod. He sees justice as an aberration, and therefore, the Enma's idea of order instead of truly doting out justice would ring so true for the rotten person he is. In his mind, this clan is the closest to his personal philosophy, as he believes in the "logical malignance" of numbers. Numbers are neutral things, but they embody both good and bad. The deaths of millions, the prosperity of many. This is a system in and of itself...so Moriarty would be more than happy to uphold the system of the Enma, through and through, as a man who stands above a web, and pulls strings where he sees fit.
